Meet the Innkeepers…

1988 – to date

Like any stately inn, it takes a battalion of smiling professionals to ensure everything is just right for your stay, and The Williamsburg Sampler is no exception; however, the owners are Laura Reeves, her father Ike Sisane and now 3rd generation Innkeeper Carter Reeves.

Traveling south from New York, through the Pocono Mountains of Pennsylvania, to the Tidewater area of Virginia, and finally to Williamsburg, the inn was originally opened and operated by Ike and his late wife Helen in the late eighties and is today one of the longest continuously operated bed and breakfasts in the Williamsburg area. Today, Ike and Laura are carrying on the same traditions and standards the guests of The Williamsburg Sampler have enjoyed for over thirty years.

Ike, the son of European immigrants, spent his childhood rambling through the Burrows of New York. After a stint in the United States Air Force, he met and married his wife Helen. Later, Ike took a career job in civil service as an archivist and began his family.  Following his job, he moved his family, now with three daughters in tow, to the laurel-covered mountains of the Poconos, through the Newport News area of Virginia, and finally retiring and putting down roots here in Williamsburg.  Ike and Helen opened The Williamsburg Sampler in 1988 and began a second lifetime collecting treasures and memories to share with their guests of the inn.  Later, Ike was fortunate enough to continue his world travels and continued his collection of treasures from near and far.  Every item in the inn has a story sitting beside it on the shelf.

Today, his daughter Laura, granddaughter and the staff do most of the heavy lifting for The Williamsburg Sampler.  They make sure that everything is perfect for your stay and as you expect it… freeing up Ike to regale guests with tales of his travels, of the area, and curate the inn’s menagerie. Laura also owns The Williamsburg Manor Bed and Breakfast and The Catering Company.

The fact that Ike literally patented the phrase “skip-lunch breakfast” tells you most of what you need to know about our breakfast.  Blending their past with a little Southern style, leaving hungry will be your fault.
